Nuit Blanche 2024

We are excited to be participating in Nuit Blanche again for 2024! The JCCC will be open from 7pm to 7am alongside the rest of the City of Toronto and will activate for a night of celebrating connections.

Learn about and experience printmaking through our exhibits and programming! Our vibrant fall exhibit, Spirit Place: The Magnificent Woodcut Art of Naoko Matsubara will be on view, exploring themes of nature, spirituality, and place. Mastubara is a renowned Japanese Canadian printmaker, who employs the traditional Japanese woodblock technique of mokuhanga. Forty dynamic woodcut prints will hang in the JCCC Art Gallery, along with her rollers, paints, brushes and handmade paper. Photographs depicting Matsubara in process in her studio will be hung, and a short documentary featuring the artist, her work, and her studio, will premiere.

Enjoy an artist talk from Naoko Matsubara herself at 7pm in the gallery – this chance to hear renowned artist, now in the sixth decade of her career, speak, is a rare one.

If you’re feeling inspired and itching to try your hand at printmaking, join us for a linocut printmaking workshop, facilitated by local artist Caitlin Chan.
