Sue Kai (nee Matsugu) was born on January 26th, 1925, in a small, small town in Alert Bay, British Columbia, which is on the northern tip of Vancouver Island. Her family moved to Vancouver, BC and she discusses her childhood growing up in the Powell Street Area in Vancouver, BC. She recalled the day Pearl Harbour was bombed and how the community reacted at church. Her father was sent to work camp while the rest of the family was sent to Kaslo, BC where her father would reunite with them. After the war, they moved to Toronto, ON. She met and married her husband Sam Kai. She talked about her work at the Facelle Tissues Company, social life, and volunteer work at the United Church and Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre.
