BRING MIN'YO BACK!

Yuji Moriwaki’s delirious documentary follows the Minyo Crusaders, a group of passionate neo-traditionalists and their mission to save Japanese Min’yo folk songs from extinction and bring them to the world. The  Tokyo-based band blend Latin and Afro flavours into unique arrangements of the traditional Japanese folk genre now at risk of extinction. For many in Japan, minyo is "lost music." In this film, director Yuji Moriwaki takes an up close and personal look at the musicians figuring out together how to reconstruct the art form, and the process of how to “bring minyo back” to contemporary audiences.

Dialogs in both English and Japanese with subtitles.
