Modest Heroes

This three-part Japanese animated family anthology film features work by Studio Ponoc finest up-and-coming directors including founder Hiromasa Yonebayashi (Mary and the Witch’s Flower).

Kamini and Kanino is an adventure about two magical siblings in search of their lost father. Life Ain’t Going to Lose tells the tale of a boy who vows to cure a deadly allergy. In Invisible, a lonely invisible salaryman is given the chance to be a hero.

Beautifully realized, heartfelt and a lot of fun, the film is a peek into the future of Japanese anime.

生まれつき極度のたまごアレルギーを持つ小学生のシュンは野球好きで明るく元気な少年。そんなある日、シュンは、母の居ぬ間に誤ってたまご入りのアイスクリームを口にしてしまう！(監督：百瀬義行『サムライエッグ』16分)

アパートで暮らす、ひとりの青年。ワイシャツを着てめがねをかけ、いつものとおりに家を出る。なんと彼は、透明人間だった！透明人間の体は自動ドアもATMにも反応されせず、重力に見放された彼は、空に飛んでいってしまう。 (監督：山下明彦『透明人間』13分)
