MY SMALL LAND

“…Handled with rare skill and insight; this is a small film likely to have a big impact.”
– Jennie Kermode, Eye for Film

“Lina Arashi delivers a powerful, subtle, and meticulous performance”
– Screen Anarchy

Sarya is a 17 year-old Kurdish refugee attending a Japanese high school. Her life turned upside down when she learns that her family’s refugee status is rejected, and her father is taken into custody for illegal employment. Sarya is now suddenly forced into a situation where she is responsible not only for her younger siblings but for her very existence.

This sweet, haunting and deeply moving debut from Emma Kawawada and producer Hirokazu Kore-eda.

Recipient of Special Mention, Amnesty International Film Award at the Berlin International Film Festival.
